Students at SMB

GET INVOLVED
- Socials/lunches
Every Sunday we have lunch either organised or just getting together with others who are around after the morning service. We also love socials – sometimes really organised, other times just linking up for food or coffee.
- Events
We’re really keen that students are fully part of the wider church but there also needs to be space to be ‘just students’. We get together once a month on a Sunday evening for this student space; to relax together, worship, pray and have teaching.
- Serving through SMB
What are you passionate about? Find what you’re good at and use it to serve God. We want to make it as easy as possible for all the students at SMB to use what they are good at to serve God and serve others through the church and in the city. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with new things that you may never have done before!
- The Christian Unions in Canterbury
As a church we love what the CUs in Canterbury are doing for students in the city. We can link you up with them to get involved serving other students and letting others know what’s great about God. There’s also lots of other work going on in the city for students that you can get involved with & we work to support as a church.
GET CONNECTED
- Host families
SMB is full of families and lots of them are really keen to ‘host’ students – to have you round for lunch or dinner and generally get to know what makes you tick. It’s a great way to meet people and get supported whilst you’re at uni.
- Small groups
Getting involved in a small group is a fantastic way to meet people, have fun and grow. We have a student group that meets every Thursday during term time and students can choose to join one of the other groups in the church that are made up of a range of ages – it’s up to you! We’re just really keen that you can get included in a small group and thrive whilst at uni!
BE CHALLENGED
- Sunday and midweek teaching
The services on Sunday provide a great chance to learn more about God . Through other events in the week there are further opportunities to hear more about God, the Bible and Christian living. The church runs various courses including the Alpha Course.
- Mentors
Setting up a formal mentoring relationship with someone else in the church or the cit y who is older and wiser is a great way of being challenged and growing. We want you to be able to go deeper with your faith and have a space to ask difficult questions.
- Small groups
One of the best ways to be challenged is through a small group – meet people, study the bible, have fun and dare to make a difference in your life and the lives of others!
